Technology and Global Warming Mitigation
Introduction
Currently, the whole world has been keen in coming up with new measures, which can help in alleviating some of the major,
problems which have been faced by man. For instance, the question of environment has been a subject of interest as
different strategies continue to be proposed as to have a better place, which guarantees posterity not only for human
beings but also for animals and all other forms of creation. While taking into account this question of environmental
conservation and sustainability, there has been much interest with global warming thus being able to become the central
point of discussion with the environment subject. Global warming is the continued increase in global temperatures that has
been a consequence of increased emission of greenhouse gases due to proliferated utilization of fossil fuels in an effort
to producing energy and power (Capehart, 2007).
Once such gases have been emitted into the sky, they have been able to cause approximate damage on the ozone layer, which
delimits the amount and quality of sun’s rays that find their way into the earth’s surface. Increased penetration of
such rays has been the underlying cause of increased temperatures all due to emitted gases, and thus what has been
referred to as global warming. With increased temperatures within the global atmosphere, the results has been that of
increased warmth which in the end leads to the melting of ice caps in the Polar Regions and also on the top peaks of the
tallest mountains (Easton, 2008). Upon the above happening, the melting ice has been able to find its way into the water
masses, and thus increasing the volumes of such water. As well, increased sea levels have increased chances of catrinas
and typhoons, and tsunamis that have become disastrous to many people around the world. Global warming has been a leading
factor on global warming, and the reason there has been the need of coming up with adequate measures and methods of
engagements which have the ability of reducing the amount of gases which are being emitted.
Thesis Statement: With increased emission of gases due to fossil fuels, there has been the need to adopt energy emission
technologies that have positively lessened the negative effects that have been because of fossil fuels, and by so doing
being able to alleviate the increasing developments of global warming.
Facts on Global Warming
Global warming does arise due to increased temperatures within the earth’s atmosphere, and this comes because of
increased penetration of sun’s rays after destruction of the ozone layer due to increased emission of fossil derived
greenhouses carbon gases. The fossil fuels which have been in use for very many decades have been emitting large
quantities of carbon gases, and this has gone beyond the threshold levels thus being able to distort the ozone layer, and
making it permissible to sun’s rays. This has thus been causing a great deal of conjecture among the developing nations,
and this has been because such nations have been seeing the developed nations as the culprits, and the players who should
be held questionable for their carbon emissions (Capehart, 2007). Upon increased global temperatures, the result has been
on the fact that there has been a change in climatic patterns. This has thus been the reason behind why many individuals
have been so much conscious of the situations and willing to engage in any form of activities and missions that will help
in alleviating the problem.
Towards addressing the problem, the Kyoto Protocol signed in 2005 in Japan had been aimed at seeing all major carbon
emitters held responsible for their emissions and being needed to cut down their emissions within a given duration. As
well, there was the need for different measures to be undertaken so that the problems that have been caused by global
warming could be reduced (Zedillo & Ponce, 2008). About five years later, the Copenhagen Summit was held in Denmark in
2009 in which no possible conclusion was arrived at, and thus making it possible to cut the gaseous emissions that have
continued to cause global warming and consequential climatic changes. The measures that had been proposed had little or no
consequences and hence the need of having new engagements that would help in promoting the means on how such gases could
be reduced in terms of their emissions (Easton, 2008). This is thus what has been able to result in the present day
adoption of new technological applications which have been aimed at cutting down the negative emission of gases which has
been common for the use of fossil fuels, and by so doing be able to fight global warming and climatic change. _________________ wind mitigation inspector
